This is my first time going to a real barber, i used to go to ';hair salons'; What is the range for blades? is it 1-10? And when i say a specific number they automatically know what to cut unless i tell them otherwise right? I do not want to look like a fool there. And what questions do they usually ask first? I think you are talking about guards for clippers...right?
If so, yes, they are standardized sizes. 1-5 is the most common. Most guys get a 2 or 3 on the sides.
They will ask you the same things a stylist will ask...if you like clippers or shears, how you wear it, how long it has been since you last got it cut, if you like your neckline rounded or square, etc.
You should know that barbers don't style much, so if you usually where a texturized ';messy'; cut, they might not be the best at it. They specialize in clipper cuts though.
