Well, in his opinion, no. He stated possible health concerns and other aspirations (you know he's now a reporter for ABC or some other bigtime news station/show) as his primary reasons for retiring. In the fans opinions, yes (at least for the majority). I think it's cool. It's his body, although I would've liked to have seen him play a little while longer. He brought excitement to watching the Giants play. He could break out at anytime. Another question that we can ask is: How will his ';early'; retirement affect his possible induction into the Hall of Fame?Did Tiki Barber retire too early?
Tiki Barber might have only been 33 years old when he retired, but the facts were that his body was breaking down. By 35, Tiki would've had to retire and he would've been too hurt to keep up the numbers he has put up in his carrer. He would've ruined his reputation as a ';put your heart on the field'; guy.
I wouldn'e wanna see a guy like him fade away at the end of his carrer.Did Tiki Barber retire too early?
Yeah...like Barry Sanders...like Terrell Davis...although TD was actually hurt, so he had a reason...
Tiki do not retire too early. He was smart and went out on his own terms and conditions. He left while he was still healthy and on top of his game. You have to think about his size and speed compared to a line man's or a defensive backs size and speed. Tiki took a beating. He made the right choice.
This is a good question, and one we have debated at the office. On the one hand.... He retired on his own terms, he left the game when he wanted to, and was not forced out by injury or declining ability. So in that regard, he did not retire too early.
On the other hand, he is probably only about 2 solid seasons away from securing a future spot in the HOF. I wonder if that will haunt him as he grows older. His brother will almost certainly make it to the HOF, so I wonder how he will feel about it 10 years from now, and Ronde is in the Hall?
Will he have those 2nd thoughts... '; If I had just played another couple of years, we could have both been in the HOF?';
Too late no Super Bowl ring
Maybe nut he said he wanted to retire while he could still walk and plus there are careers that he wanted to pursue. Also, he wanted to retire because he didn't want to have to tackled by the Eagles linebackers and lineman anymore, not that he's afraid to.
giants fans think so. truth is, tiki knew he'd never win the superbowl with that little girl eli under center so he called it quits.
Tiki Barber exceeded the NFL average for a player, so no. The average NFL player only last like 3.5-4 years. He was a durable back that had some very productive years in the NFL. I have a lot of respect for him. He quit for the right reasons. He wanted to be with his family and didn't want to be crippled later in life. Too many NFL players don't know when to hang up the cleats. Look at Jerome Bettis for example. He couldn't hardly make it up and down the stairs during his last season after game day. He's what..30? Wait until he is 50 and can't walk because of that.
No...with all the physical beating....I think 5years is enough
i think he might have he could have at least stuck around for another year or two till the giants were sure they had a good back to replace him with tiki could have helped mold the back and the giants could have rotated them so tiki didnt get to tired or injured from the majority of the carries.
as nice of a guy as tiki is he could have at least done something like that to help out his team.
and tiki still would be a great running back for at least 4 more years he fixed his fumble problem and he was great he still had game left in his system i think he will regret leaving a little soon.
Not at all he is a business man.
He retired at the top of his game, how many others do that.
Did you ever see the HBO special on Jim OTTo of the Raiders with all the reconstructive surgery on his hips, back and knees.
TB did the right thing. He will now have a productive career in broadcasting and endorsements. Probably will make more in broadcast than if he stayed on the team.
